New from the Potsdam College Press
Out of the Blue: Blueline Essays 1979-1989
by Alice Wolf Gilborn

Blueline Magazine
Blueline Magazine
Winner of the 2014
Adirondack Center for Writing Nonfiction Award

Gilborn’s vital and important essays are a true contribution to Adirondack literature. Written during her ten years as Founding Editor of Blueline: A Literary Magazine Dedicated to the Spirit of the Adirondacks, the essays focus on subjects as varied as walking Blue Mountain, Adirondack porches, and the joys and travails of launching a literary magazine. Gilborn’s writing is at once eloquent, realistic, and always insightful about the region’s unique character. The collection includes two fine essays on the life and writing of Jeanne Robert Foster, poet and editor. Gilborn’s passion for nature writing is also clear in her reflections on Hawthorne, Emerson, and Thoreau, as well as their intellectual descendant Leo Marx. “Here is fodder for the imagination,” Gilborn writes about the Adirondacks. The same can be said of these exceptional essays.

Out of the Blue
is made for anyone who enjoys Blueline Magazine or any aspect of Adirondack literary culture. The handsome 5 by 7 volume includes historical photos and contemporary art.
